This was a combination book cover design and illustration exercise. The Wendigo is a psychological horror about a group of men who go into the woods and ultimately go insane due to seeing a towering and rotting deer-like beast. In the novel, there is an interesting relation to the alluring nature of the beast and the human psyche, so I wanted to highlight that with my illustration. The style itself is representative of sketchy field notes like one might take on a nature hike, in plain black and white to give an eerie beauty to the drawing, and striking contrast. Most horror novels are subtle in their imagery before you read the book, but I think it's more terrifying and enticing even to see the monster right on the cover, in all of its decomposing glory.
